About Grok Imagine Image Quality

Grok Imagine Image Quality (grok-imagine-image-quality) is the higher-quality tier of xAI's image model. Against Standard, detail, composition and in-image lettering hold up better, which suits work you deliver as is: covers, posters, product shots and illustration. 1K renders in about 5 seconds and 2K in about 12, and 2K is rendered natively rather than upscaled. Edits come back at the ratio you choose, and several references are allowed. The API is compatible with the OpenAI images API: text-to-image goes to /v1/images/generations, and edits put the references in image or images or call /v1/images/edits; submitting returns a job id, then poll GET /v1/images/jobs/{id} for the image. Seven aspect ratios and two resolutions, 1K and 2K; 4K is not offered. 1K and 2K cost the same, billed per image, with failed jobs refunded in full.

Choose Quality, grok-imagine-image-quality, for images you deliver as finished work; choose Standard, grok-imagine-image, for speed, unit price and batches of candidates, at half the price of Quality. Both tiers price 1K and 2K the same; for 4K, use GPT Image 2 or the Nano Banana models.

How is it different from Standard?

Both are xAI's Grok Imagine Image. Quality holds detail, composition and in-image lettering more reliably and renders edits at the ratio you choose; Standard is faster, costs half as much and keeps the original image's ratio when editing.

Which aspect ratios and resolutions are supported?

Seven aspect ratios - 1:1, 3:4, 2:3, 9:16, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 - at 1K or 2K (send resolution: "2K" or a 2048-class pixel size); 4K is not offered. 2K is rendered natively, not upscaled from 1K.

How many reference images can I send?

Several: one in image, or several in images (in our tests two references were combined into a single picture). Each can be a public URL, a data: URI or base64.

Am I charged when a render fails?

No. Failed renders, timeouts and content-moderation refusals are refunded in full; you pay per image only when one is delivered.
